Eight Convicted and 7 Acquitted of a Network That Exported Drugs from Alicante as if It Were Shoes

The Court imposes sentences that total almost 33 years in prison and a fine of 395,000 euros for the value of the marijuana and hashish seized by the National Police.

The Provincial Court has sentenced eight people accused of being part of a network that was dedicated to exporting marijuana and hashish by simulating shipments of shoes from Alicante to different European countries, such as Sweden and Italy, to sentences totaling almost 33 years in prison. Six defendants must serve a sentence of four years and six months in prison, another one of five years and the last eight months, according to the sentence handed down this week by the Tenth Section, which will be appealed before the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community .

The court also imposes a fine of 395,000 euros on those convicted, an amount that corresponds to the value of the drugs seized by the Alicante National Police in the operation, some 286 kilos of marijuana and hashish.

The ruling agrees to the acquittal of seven other defendants in the same case, defended by lawyers Roberto Sánchez Martínez , Sara Cabezas Campos, Aitor Esteban Gallastegui, Evaristo Llanos, Moisés Candela Sabater, Mari Paz Alarcón and Juan Carlos Fuentes. The court considers that it has not been sufficiently proven that these now acquitted defendants had an active participation in the events. At trial, the Prosecutor’s Office requested sentences totaling 121 years in prison for the fifteen defendants.
